The Alla Pace restaurant which first opened in 1804 retains its nostalgic rurality and the tastiest of cuisines using prime local ingredients. Certain specialities you can never forget: barley and bean soup, green tagliarini with speck, goulash of beef guanciale (cheek of the pig), pork spare-rib with sauerkraut and a mouth-watering venison with polenta.
The bill rarely exceeds 30 euro.

For lovers of peace and tranquillity, the hamlet of Lateis offers the hotel and restaurant Rilarhaus. Once the village inn, it is now run with gracious proficiency by Paola Schneider. Her kitchen offers ricotta fresh from the malga, a must in the Carnia, followed by green nettle gnocchi, mushroom pie, venison with juniper, leg of lamb with wild thyme and the famed dunkatle and the traditional mixed pork meats with polenta. The vision continues with ice-cream with hot cranberries, followed by the grappa of Friuli, flavoured and laced with wild mountain lovage, gentian root, sorrel, aniseed, juniper, rue, calendula and lemon balm.

At the Kursaal restaurant, in comfortable and spacious surroundings, Daniele and Cortiula, Gianni Cosetti's star pupil, take you on a clever and extravagant tour of the cuisine of Carnia revisited.

In the upper hamlet of Lateis, Pa' Krhaizar's hotel and restaurant is finally open once again. Elena and Franco serve delicious homemade fare in a friendly traditional setting. Elena, the creator of these tasty dishes, all made using local produce (cheese from the malga, herbs, cured ham and speck), after accumulating a wide range of experience of different cuisines, working as a chef in Italy and abroad, has at last, at Pa' Krhaizar's, found her true niche: a welcoming atmosphere where the mouth-watering food, entirely home-produced, is the true master.
