The walks described below are among the easiest and most picturesque
in the area and have been chosen either because they lead the rambler from hamlet to hamlet,
offering alternative routes to road links, or because they take in the most striking beauty
spots of the valley
The walks are described following the direction considered the simplest and most
straightforward but there is nothing to stop the hiker doing them in the opposite direction.
They can also be linked together making much longer and significantly more rewarding excursions.
Hikers who are looking for something more cha.m. tonging, in the Sauris mountains or
the Monte Bivera group of mountains, are advised to use the 1/25,000 maps published by the
Casa Editrice Tabacco. We hope your stay in our valley comes
up to expectations and, 'Happy Hiking'! |

St. Lorenzo (300 m.) and from here the path which enters the wood below.
Follow the path which crosses the secondary road several times until you reach the houses of

The start is from the secondary road, just before you reach the hamlet of Sauris di
Sopra (about 300 m), where there is an outcrop of chalky rocks.
The track takes you first to the Stavolo Plozzer at Hotzach (1447 m.) and then for
a short stretch rises steeply (approx. 200 m.).
It then continues on the flat until you reach Pront (1428 m.) where the descent brings
you in no time to Sauris di Sotto.
The return journey can be made either by following the same

This walk follows the pleasantly peaceful road through the woods

The road starts at Sauris di Sopra near the meeting point at the Albergo Rickhelanhaus.
The first leg winds its way close to the grassy ridge to the south of the village.
Entering the wood, after climbing and descending a few times, you reach the Monte Rucke
holiday farm (1462 m.) run by Signora Plozzer. The path continues for some time following
the woody ridge of Monte Rucke until it reaches the vast clearing of the Casolari Beinte (1424 m.)
where you can admire a beautiful view over the lake and the main peaks of the valley
You can return following the same path. Otherwise, from Casolari Beinte you can follow the
signposted path which leads to La Maina, but it is extremely steep.
From the ridge of Monte Rucke another path descends to the Sports Centre where it links
up with WALK no. 1, bringing you down to Sauris di Sotto.

An easy, relaxing walk along the side of the lake.
The track leaves from La Maina and follows the road for Ampezzo until it reaches and
crosses the barrage and the tunnel which leads to the Pura pass (warning: take a torch
with you because there is no lighting in the tunnel).
After about 1 km., at the first crossroads, turn onto the track which runs along the side of the lake,
almost always either on the flat or only slightly uphill, until you reach Rio Scalotta.
If you would like to prolong the walk, follow the forest track which continues alongside
the hydro-electric basin. To return follow the same path back.

This excursion links Sauris di Sotto with the hamlet of Lateis passing through the Eimblateribn
col and the mountain shelter of the same name.
Take the road next to the Municipio or town hall of Sauris di Sotto which goes uphill
in a northerly direction.
After a few hundred metres, near a group of houses, the road becomes a rough track
and climbs until it reaches Raitern (1409 m.). Just beyond you enter a wood of beech
tress and the path continues to rise and fall. It then crosses a friable gully and takes
you up to the Sella di Eimblateribn (1425 m.) where you will find the
Eimblateribn mountain refuge.
The path then takes you down over the opposite side of the col until you reach a fork.
Turn right here (it is signposted) along the road which goes through the Hinter d'Olbe
and the Forca Frumeibm stavoli and down to Lateis. The return journey can be made following
the same route back or following the road which goes directly from Lateis to
La Maina and Sauris di Sotto.
